right i got 400mg tablets of metro would it be best to move all 3 of my discus to a hospital tank while i treat them as my hosp tank is 5.5 gallon tank and my big tank is a 40 gallon tank which would need alot of metro to dose..

also is this metronidazole the same stuff that humans have perscribed as dont want to give wrong stuff

Moon............It is the same stuff that humans use. It would certainly be less expensive medicating a smaller tank.
ironically, it is much cheaper getting metro from the drugist than the pet store....imo

Jim pretty much answered it...just be careful in such a small tank, do 2 large water changes daily if not more...stress will only make the hex worse...

In my opinion a 5 gallon tank is to small to treat three discus.

right what im doing is treating the big tank it aint costing nothin cos i no a vet so i get free stuff

right this is what im gonna do tell me if im donig anything wrong ok

wed: 4x400mg tablets
thurs: 50% water change
fri: 4x400mg tablets
sat: 50%water change
sun: 4x400mg tablets
mon: 50%water change
tues: 4x400mg tablets
wed: 50% water change

the tanks 40 gallon so im doing 400mg of metro to 10 gallon as i aint got nothing to scale out the extra 100mg
i dont want to overdose..

im also raising the temp to 88 my discus will be fine but will my angel fish be ok in this heat as i dont want to cook them..

Sounds good, be sure to watch your ammonia levels and cut back on feedings to once or twice a day.

Good luck Luke, let me know how they turn out :)

After you're done with the treatment you can also consider adding epsom salt at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons to help them flush their systems out, they probably won't get an appetite back for quite some time...

how quick is the improvement as they seem to be perking up.
and the little 1 that always hides in the corner. the 1 i aint seen eat is running round the tank with the other 2 it looks like its working but i could be imagening things

Could just be the large water change, how often do you perform water changes?

YOu know you should be doing 30% daily right?

Improvement can be seen whenever I'd imagine, you won't likely see them regain their appetites for a while, though.

i do 50% w/c every other day ive been slowly adding r/o water to get the hardness down and the kh the readings yesterday were gh of 14 which was 20 and the kh of 8 which was 12 and im adding a bit more each time till i get a kh of 5-6 and gh of 8-9 hopefully. The ph when aged is a steady 8.5 which is high i know but i was thinking of just using r/o water and adding r/o right but i aint been able to look in to it . tell me when u add r/o right what do u have to do to the ph will r/o right set the ph aswell and what does it set it too?

You'd have to talk to Randal about adjusting pH...I don't mess with mine...

I just fill up a trash can with however much RO water I feel like at the time and add tap water, agitate it over 24 hours and throw it in...a large decline in gH shouldn't affect the fish too heavily...if at all...
