Posting a whole bunch of pictures. The first 2 groupings are from Jason at Superior Discus. The last grouping is from my community tank. I labled some of those pictures so you could see the source. Hope you like them.

This is a group of babies. Jason calls them Red Spotted Goldens. They are a bit skittish and don't like to swim around when the lights are on so it was a bit difficult getting any good pictures.

Yo Jason,
They are swimming around and eating well when I leave the overhead lights off. They look much better than the pictures. Thanks!

The following are some pics from my community tank. This tank has some Wattley Discus, a couple from LFS and a few from the Brewmaster himself.

I think this guy has a great shape but the pattern never developed well and he has too much pepper. This guy has mated with the Marlboro Red but he's an EGGEATER!!.

Heya David,

Gorgeous fish - I really like your community.

Personally I don't mind a bit of peppering on a PB, and think he's a very pretty fish ;-)

Cheers!

Hi David. Nice red fishes.

Are those pure golden fishes in pic "red_spotted_golden_002.jpg" ? It looks like a pigeon based fish. I'm probably wrong of course but a check with Jason should clear that up. :)

I thought it might be a good idea if hobbyists could learn how to differentiate between a very clean pigeon and a pure golden. If the term 'golden' is used on a very clean pigeon based fish, then it would be misleading to the general public if it commands a premium price.

Just my two cents worth. The most important thing to note is that as long as the fish is beautiful to you, then it certainly is worth its weight in gold. :)

Hello Asian Discus
Spoke to Jason. The red spotted goldens have no pigeon. Go to Jason's site and he has pictures of what these should look like as adults.

As for the red fish, I think they will turn out to be very special. These pictures of these fish were taken 36 hours after being in bags for 34 hours, but that's a story for a different thread. Those fish are already getting more colorful by the day as they acclimate.

Sorry I can't be more help, but I am just beginning to learn which fish begat which fish which begat some other fish that................................... ???

Hi Asia,

those fish are not pure goldens and they dont have any pidgeon in them either.

They were developed from red spotted greens, the green striations have been selectively bred away to allow the egg-yolk base colour to dominate the fish.

If you have a close look at them the fry have that distinctive wild green shape.
