Sorry I could not post any fry pictures yet. My digital camera has a hard time with close ups when the fish are moving, and the fry are very active. Will try to borrow a fancier camera to get some decent pictures. The bigger ones are beginning to show a little blue color, but will be hard to see in pictures.

Gary, limige has a bunch of fry from this batch. He's close to you if you ever want to see some.

yeah, rick is a great person to deal with and the fry are excellent!!!

he does a top notch job of taking care of them and the pair is very healthy.

i don't think anyone would be dissappointed with these fish.

mike

ps: tony1313 also has some, his tank is setup in better lighting, he may be able to get some nice pics of the ones he has.

Here's a pic of the red turqs. Not so good, but gives an idea of color and shape. Some are just starting to show little blue dots in the fins.

Here's a shot of the SS babies. Same size as the others, but picture had to be smaller to meet file size requirement.

Looks good, rcubeiii! Any more visible colored fries?

OK, gw. I took a shot at it with my limited camera and did manage to get a couple of good shots. These are from my older batch of fry, and they are just over 2" long. Gives some idea of color beginning to form. There are three bar patterns of fish coming from the same parents.

First is a fish with the 9 bar pattern showing blue areas over entire body. This pattern is coloring up the fastest. Several have more color than this one, but this is the best picture I got. Flash washes out the body color.

The second is the classic 14 bar SS pattern. These are coloring up the slowest, but the few that have color look really promising.

The third has no bars, and you can see the blue beginning to form on top of body and in fins. This pattern looks really interesting. Don't know what the pattern will look like yet, but there should be a lot of blue showing.

Very nice parents, Rick. Just goes to show that they are no pure strains around. The spawns are segregating for 9-bars, 14-bars and no bars, so the parents have derived from turqs, snakeskins and pigeon bloods. It would be very interesting to get an accurate count, which will predict the genetic inheritance pattern of these traits.

Carol thinks the no bar form is a result of the pair being siblings and blue diamond in the background because there is no peppering. There was one very weak blue fish in the last spawning, which seems to confirm her thinking.

Will attempt to get a count of the relative numbers.

A quick update. Sold several of both smaller and larger ones this weekend, but still quite a few nice ones left if anyone else has an interest.

Also, as expected, I have a new batch that just went free swimming today. Looks like 125-150 fish. If anyone is interested in purchasing the entire batch, I would sell them at 3-4 weeks. They'll be about dime size at that point, approximately weekend of May 8-9 or just before.

Send an email or call if interested.

Babies are doing great. Will be one week free swimming on Wednesday, 4/21. Started on BBS yesterday. Already eating them eagerly.

Am looking into what I would need for shipping. Will get back to those of you who are not close enough to pick up.

Just purchased 6 discus from Rick and I am posting this to let you know the discus are great. Not only were the fish in perfect health but the clean tanks show Rick has a great deal of pride in what he is doing. After releasing the fish in their new home the fish were active immediatley. No clamped fins or fish hiding in the corner. They were eating flake food like hungry discus should. I am really happy with the fish I purchased from Rick.
