Jason,

They are quite rare. I know of one guy in Minnesota breeding them as I saw them with my own eyes, but he is not selling them. I have not seen any on any of my wholesale lists either. If you find any let me know I'm also looking for some.

Check out boesterscichlids.com, they may have them or know where to get them. If not, if you can make a GCCA auction, they always have some there.

They are hard to get these days - I recently saw some on aquabid.com for $100.00 starting price. I've asked three importers and they've told me a bunch of different reasons ranging from:

- the Germans and Japanese are paying top dollar for them, so they are getting the majority of the fish.

- they are now endangered and their natural habitat is getting dammed up.

- this time of year, the Rio Xingu is extremely deep and the currents are strong, so it's very difficult to get them.

Good luck - they are pretty (but shy) fish to have. Here's an old photo of mine.

Answer number three by Wahter is correct. It's the wrong time of the year for them. That is why prices are very high.

Thanks for the responses, didnt think I would receive any... Don I did check out www.boestercichlids.com, they are not importing them anymore...I do have a couple here at my house, just looking for some more to add to my collection...I will check out the GCCA swap meet next time...I know for sure one of mine is a big male...Also heard too about the endangered species.

Thanks

There is a Guy here in Chicago that is breeding them. His name is Steve something. He breeds tons of Cats+Plecos. I don't have contact info on him but I've heard of him from a couple of locals.

L46 are a 'threatened' species.
Their habitat is threatened also.
It is not yet low enough water to find them.
If & when they are available again they will be much more expensive than in previous years.
Last years retail price is likely to be this years wholesale price.
Last year I sold them 50 each or 5 for $200.....I had hundreds of them.I regret selling any of them now.

Jason,
There's a pet shot on the north side of Chicago called King Coral Aquarium on West Montrose Ave. (773) 283-5612 -(773) 283-5618 [service@kingcoral.com]. One of my friends purchased a few from them and they look great, but very pricy.

Hope that helps ;)

Ever find some zebras? I havent even seen many on aquabid here lately, sold off my batch then saw some pop up and now nothing. Have had people emailing me asking if I have more, and would like to be able to refer them to somewhere.

Jason they are around if you look hard enogh. Wildthings price is in the general range that they are selling for. If you ship them in find out all the shipping cost and compare prices. I need to add 4 to my stock.

You can also try buying from "zi" Germanz. :)

www.l46.de

A little knowledge of zi German language is recommended. They may have a few good ideas.
