AquaClear 500

Just bit the bullet and upgrades from a 300 to a 500 on my 55. Had double sponged the 300 like you'll suggested, but when I went to do the same on the 500 the second sponge was 1/3 out of the water. Thinking about using the cermaic bio media that come with the 500 instead. Any thoughts?

You may not have your sponges seated correctly :P

The second sponge should be about an inch out of the water.

Two sponges inside the filter box instead of just one ;D

My 2nd sponge is 1" above water (2/3's in water and it's 3 1/2" high.)Just wanted to make sure that was what you had also.

Wasn't sure if AC had changed there design, they don't call it a 500 anymore, it's for "110 gal tks.)
