I was just wondering if a 20g is adequate for a single juvenile to grow out. I have a 20 and an Ac500 layin around, but i doubt it could tolerate that amount of current. ??? If not, which HOB would be best for my situation?

The rule of thumb is 10 gallons per fish. Also, I would highly advise that you get a small school of discus (6-8). A lone discus is not a happy one. Discus are a schooling fish. I would suggest you get a larger tank if you are going to start out with discus (55+ gallons). A 20 gallon cannot house more than 3 3" fish comfortably. Basically, the bigger the better. The AC 500 is way to strong for a 20 gallon, but perfect for a 55-75 gallon tank. HTH

Nope, Not big enough. I tried it with Juvies when I started out and they all runted out on me. Get 6-8 and a 55 and go to town you'llhave much better results.

I'd also be concerned with having just one fish in a tank. In my experience, Discus do much better groups.

Thanks for the help. But I already have a 125g tank. I was just looking to setup something small for my bedroom. I guess i'll just have to leave things the way they are. Once again thanks for the help

Eh, I went out and bought a 29g today. Figured i'd move one of my pairs from the 125 into the 29 and give breeding a try. Now I need a ?? gallon grow out tank
or can I use a rubbermaid bin?
