Hi all,
I have a batch of fry(about 60) that are 3 weeks old. Problem is 6 of them are swimming with their heads pointing straight up and stuggling to get around. Am I correct in assuming that this is a swim bladder defect and they should be culled? I hate to cull them but then again I hate to see them suffer. :(

tia,
Tony

I don't think they arn't suffering but , whats the point of keeping them? surely your not hoping to raise these defective fish. All they are doing is helping to polute the tank. Cull them, sooner or later you'll decide they are just taking up tank space.

Yeah your probably right Rick. I was hoping that someone would know if in fact it is a swim bladder defect and if it is common. I don't know for sure and wasn't sure if it was somting they will recover from.

ive had some like that in my batches.i siphoned them out while doing wcs. their defective..not sure if swim bladder..but could be..or..tail damage from the parents cleaning them. or bent spine?? easier to cull when younger than older.

It happens in all fish Spawns!

Actually those fries will not be able to survive for long..normally I will just leave them alone and they will just die off themselves.

Tony,
I usually cull out those sliders they are just taking up room.

Thanks for the replies everyone. After taking a close look at all the fry it appears I will need to cull about 30-40%.
