Somebody please help. I was checking on my fish this morning and saw that my female white diamond has what looks like part of her insides on he outside. I have heard od what I think is a prolapsed rectum but don't really know what it is. She had been laying eggs pretty consistantly but nothing for the last two weeks. She is breathing heaver than normal but does not seem to stressed otherwise. Any ideas ????????????

Hi, can you take a pic? What exactly does it look like. Is it white, clear, slimy, reddish..... ??? How is she acting otherwise. Is she pooping normally?

I know it's a dumb question, but I have to ask... it's not her tube is it?

That does not look good at all :'( Maybe a tumor. Keep an eye on her . . . she may become very uncomfortable soon. sorry

Hi Troy, gee that looks pretty bad. I'd add some salt.

Hi troy,
I have seen similar. That looks like a bacterial infection to me... and not a very small one either... Its possible there was a blockage of the reproductive track and it became infected. My suggestion is epsom salt..1 tablespoon/10 gals and kanamycin sulfate. I would use the kanamycin sulfate for a few days past the point it looks better. I would also...use oxytetracycline if kanamycin is not availible or if things do not show improvement after 4 days on kanamycin.

I'll be honest though...that a serious looking infection.Let me know if I can help further.
