This couple have got to free swimmers a couple of times but had trouble with attaching.
At what point do you lower the water level?
A few have gone free swimming but the majority are still hanging around the cone.
Do I wait till they all free swim or force them off the cone now?

They will go free swimming when they are ready. Then it will take about 24 hours or so for them to "find" the parents. You can lower the water to an inch above the cone now if you want.

Thx Carol, I'll give it a try.

With that pair lowering the water should not be needed. It is normally the PB based fish that need the extra care.

Thx for the input John but the last couple of times the babies would just swim around aimlessly. After a couple of days they get eaten. Anyhow they all became free swimming a this morning. I've lowered the water, a few have attached and at least so far all the other are hanging tight. I'll let you know how it goes.

Good Luck with them. Kind of strange that snakes would have that issue. They will get it all figured out. It will just be a matter of time.

I hade this problem with the fry finding the parent (with old pair). Why I don't know the strange part is when I moved the pair to a large breeding tank 300l i didn't have this problem. Some time when tmp is high. Some one have telled me the case is pH low but still i have good success with wild breeders at pH of 4.5 to 5.
