Nice collection ;)

Brew, Are you feeding nutra rose?
The reason I ask....I just helped a friend make a batch of beefheart and added some to the mix. My fish have not been color fed, except for small amounts of tetra bits. :)

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

My fish get a diet that consists mostly of frzn blood worms, Live earthworms and red worms, Frzn brine shrimp, frzn mysis shrimp, assorted flake, ocean nutrition pellet (yep mine eat it), tetrabits, and beef heart. In my beefheart I use mostly paprika and freeze dried krill to bring out the red, though I will use nutrurose if I have it... nothing against it but its too expensive for my tastes, and I am happy with the results so far. I believe in as diverse a diet as possible.

...can you tell me anything about this particular fish, Brew? I have it's twin in my tank and it is very unique compared to my other wilds. Any info on it's origin?

That fish belonged to a friend of mine, Francisco Borrero. I inherited it and 2 others when He moved last year . The three were sold to him as a "curipera". The other 2 have much less red and their shape is not the greatest... This fish is a beautiful specimen.

I hope to be bringing in some wilds over the next few weeks that are supposed to be very RED... I have hopes that there will be some similar fish in the lot.

thanks,
al

...thanks for the summary! I'm kind of surprised, rather stunned, actually. The coloration, markings, and shape are an exact match for my fish. It definitely stands out among my blues and rsg's. I'm getting a real clear picture of where my fish came from. How big is it? Is it male or female?

Hi ,

This fish is between 5 and 6 inches .... hasn;t spawned so no clue on the sex... though I would guess male .

I need to caution you a little here on trying to to derrive the origin of a wild by its looks. Its not a very accurate way to do it, though I am not sure there is one. Case in point... theres a tremendous amount of variables in one strain in any river (s) . Just in the 3 I inherited...there is much variability. You may be best off to accept that you have a very nice wild brown with a red base! :) Good luck though!

... true, it could be just a nice, very red, brown Discus.

I have some work to do now, to track down this fish's journey to my tank through the importer. Thanks again for the picture and info that you've provided. I do hope that you'll keep posting your wilds and your experiences with them.

Hungry for that kind of first hand experience,
