This morning i noticed that my water was cloudy, so i looked in my tank and saw that my prefilter sponge was deteriorating. I then decided to take it out, as i though it would be a hazard. When taking it off, it was really soggy and fell apart when lifting :o. Obviously not a good thing >:(

My next move was to do an emergency water change, but after using up all my aged water, it is still cloudy.

Do you think it is a hazard, and if it is, what should i do?

I bet a bunch was sucked into your filter too. Be sure to rinse it out. Probably won't hurt anything - just unsightly.

Yep, take it to the sink, remove internal media and dump out water inside filter. Rinse filter box under running faucet. rinse filter media in dechlorinated water.

I'd monitor your ammonia and nitrite levels.. sounds like you have new tank syndrome...Is this tanks you just added discus to?

I rinse out my filters every month or so and squeeze the inside sponges until the water runs clear.

You are just rinsing out the particles from the sponge that disintergrated.

It's the tank i just added tanks to ;)

I guess i won't have that much of a problem with it since i do daily water changes...
