Hi,
I have a tall decoration in my tank which my discus keep knocking down, is it safe to put a led fishing weight in it to weigh it down?

Thanks-
Russ

No.

Try using aquarium silicone to glue some aquarium gravel or fish-safe rocks to it. I hear that Super Glue is OK if you let it dry completely.

time will tell. I am using two different plant weights in my tanks right now: zinc alloy, as well as true lead weight(per manufacturer label). I use them to weigh down my stem plants. No ill effect yet after 7 months, but I use water conditioner(supposed to neutralize heavy metal) at water changes as a precaution.

I suggest you investigate the archives at Aquatic Plants Mailing list. The use of lead weights and zinc covered lead plant anchors have been discussed many times over the years.

I wouldn't do it, the toxicity would be slow to accumulate and hard to reverse.
