Has anyone ever compared the HOT Magnum Filter and the Vortex Diatom filter concerning quality of job that they do and ease of use??

Any reviews would be as always most appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Aloha, I have used both types and I prefer the magnum. The Vortex D-1 model that I have has to be primed by turning it upside down. The magnum is much easier to use, for one you just have to fill the micron filter in add water and turn it on. HTH

I also use both.

The HOT is way more in use because of the ease.
The Vortex does however a better job.
But for normal use the HOT with the micron does just fine.

So I just repeated what Ike already said lol

Ike, you can get aroud the priming upside down with that thingi they sell. But still the inserting of the powder is a PITA.

I've used both as well;

Ease of use: HANDS DOWN the HOT wins by several miles. The Vortex is a pain in the butt, not only to prime, but also to clean afterwards.

Effectiveness: The Vortex takes this category, again by several miles. Especially if you add the powdered carbon in with the diatom earth)

So what do you want? Ease of use, or a reallly sparkling clear tank??

tuff choice ain't it :)

PS. for normal water polishing, I'd have to pick the HOT. If you have a water/parasite/bacteria problem though, the Vortex is the way to go
