Mixing Water

I have been mixing RO water and well water for the last few weeks to get my GH and KH down. I have not been using my water softner for the mixing water but through a by-pass, I get pure well water. I mixed 5gal RO with 3 gal well and got 160mg/l GH and 60mg/l KH. My ph runs about 8.0 after 24 hrs. Are these numbers OK for Discus? Or should I use a lesser mixture of well water? I don't want the KH to go too low or does it really matter? Thanks.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I don't understand 160 mg/l is that 9GH? if yes, then you need to add more RO and less well water if you are trying to increase hatch rates.

If you are just growing out juveniles then it could be fine or higher even.

Thanks Carol. Yes that is 9. Is the KH being that low OK?? I assume water softners are bad for Discus.

I think you KH is at the low end of the safe range. Test for a few weeks to see how stable KH is.
