I have been using peat pellets in my AQ and have only been able to decrease GH from 15 to 13. I refresh the peat every 2 weeks. Any ideas as to why it only decreases GH a couple of degrees?

thx

Because your water is moderately hard and contains lots of minerals. Peat works best in softer water. You will need an RO to remove enough minerals for your eggs to hatch. If you are just growing out juveniles your water is probably fine as it is. Mine is usually GH 11 or 12

Hi Guy's,

If you change water daily or every other day the pellets will not be much help.
Using pellets requires to give them some time to act.
Peat moos reacts right away. That is why it is so fast depleted.

I have use pellets in the 80's and the prep water was aged about 1 week with a canister filter with only peat pellets in it. I changed water at that time on a weekly base.

Thanks for the replies...I managed to get it down to 12 but still not low enough for hatching. I'll try another route.
