I was going through some old fish magazines and found an article by Herbert Axelrod titled "Dream Discus Part 2". The article has incredible full page color photos of Gan discus. It has a picture of Gan's pigeon blood discus and states that this was "the big hit of 1993". What is interesting is that "speckling" or pepper is highly desired on pigeon bloods, golden red, and even a purple gold discus by both Gan and Axelrod. There is also a golden red with does not have pepper, but brags of a black edge on the lower fins, base of the tail, and under the chin.
Finally, Mr. Axelrod shows an Alancer discus and proclaims it his choice of fish of the year for 1993. It has a brown body with red fins accented with blue, and a blue stripes on a brown face.
