Hey,
This may sound like a beginner's question but I think it's really pertinent to breeding, since I see it used frequently in that context.

What is meant by F1? I write online help all day and I know we're not talking about context-sensitive help.

Is F1 referring to the grade of Discus, or the generation of a strain/color?

Thanks,

Kevin

F1 means first generation produced by the founding parents.

Foundation breeders or Wild discus are F0, their fry are F1, spawns produced by F1 parents are F2 and so on.

Lets say your grandparents (F0) came over from the old country and produced children (your parents). Your parents are F1. You would be F2.

And this would be a F1 from a Heckel x Turq

Thanks Carol and Dan. So if I had some purple polka-dot Discus that were F1, you wouldn't expect the color strain be that stable yet, with a small percentage of the offspring having that coloring. But if I had Flaming Flamingo Pinks which were F7, then I'd expect that their offspring would more likely resemble the parents?

Nice
Heckel x you have, Dan.
The fifth bar is not prominent though.
The striation is brilliant too.
Can't wait to cross my own..........

Thanks Oracle. The female has better and more prominent 5th bar than the male. Most of the sibling lost the heckel bar.

Thanks DD. I wish I have the time and the space for this pair. They're 18 months old and since the move to the new house they stop spawning. They are now in the show tank. They do the mating dance but no spawning. :( ???
I'd like to sell them to an experience discus person but non around here.
