Need help with gill problem

Hi All,
I have three discus about 5+ inches. The gills flare out and does not close all the way.It has a white membrane sticking out of it. They've been like this since I purchased them. I'm not sure if it's parasitic or deformity. The fish seems to be in good health and are eating well. Any suggestions on what might cause this ???

Try formalin or quick cure and see it the gills look more normal

Hi Sou,

Sounds Like a gill infection to me! seems to only happen in higher ph water on poor matnainced tanks. Believe it or not I have done this to a few of My discus from time to time.

IME the best cure is a 8 day treatment! of Meth blue at 3 drops per gal. Salt at 5 tbs per 10 gals is also mixed in.

Only feed lightly and change water daily. Only add the amount of blue and salt thats needed to the new water going back into the tank During Your W/C! AGAIN! Do not repeat full dose after every w/c Only add meds and salt to new water thats replaced.
