I know many of you have a designed fish room or garage. How about posting some pictures to give those of us who are thinking of making one some ideas.

Also any tips that you know that you learned the easy way or
the hard way I know would be most helpful to all who are thinking
of taking this project on.

Thank you in advance for you pictures.

Those are all awesome. I'm wondering how you all deal with the humidity?

I've got a total of only 500 gallons in my basement fishroom and the humidity is becoming an issue.

Brian,

Have you tried a dehumidifier?

I installed a air exchanger for my room.

Brian,

I think with 500 gallon you could get away with just a dehumidifier. It really depends on the size of the room, ceiling height, humidty and temp outside, and a number of factors.

I had about 1000 gallons in a 2 carge garage only taking up one of the side. But I also found that my 25 feet ceiling helped alot with the humidty. I did not even use a dehumifier. I also had access to 2 big windows and door. So that help with the circulation.

The heat exchanger are great but a little pricey. If there was no other solution I would have ended up getting one. But thank god in the end I did not need it.

Great pictures guys. Enough to make anyone envious.

Great photos folks & tips!!

I hadn't thought of having a dehumidifier for a damp room. I've been opening windows to draw in the clean fresh air and hoping it would dry the room (except for rainy days where it still continues to be dampened).

Uhm.. My marbles are flowing again. :D --Angie--

:) Guess I'll be investing in a dehumidifier. Basement ceilings in NY are pretty low, and in the summer it seems like they're only 5 ft. LOL

All of these pictures have been great and thanks so much to everyone who has taken the time to post there fish room / garage pictures

but....keep the picutres coming it really does help those of us who are planning to build a fish room in the near future. I know there are many of you who have fish rooms how about showing them off.

Any helpful hints would also be very helpful.

helpfull hints...

setup your layout on paper, then do additional wiring on their own breakers seperate for the fishroom.

next decide if you need a linear piston pump or blower.
buy that peice and plumb accordingly.

next start buying tanks heaters and filters.

make sure to drill your tanks, it makes life way simpler.

i've decided on a two hole system for the tanks.
one hole in the bottom for easy emptying and overflow.

then on 50% down on the side for water change level.
all tanks can be drained to set level without disturbing anything by opening one valve per tier. pumps can be used to refill and if you go over it just runs down the overflow.

anyhow, thats my idea, i haven't implemented it yet...

decide how your going to do water changes and buy the supplies BEFORE you get too many fish and/or tanks. otherwise you spend your time taking care of the fish and don't have time to plumb or run new electrical.

i think if you do things in steps like this it helps, the fish will benefit well from a proper setup from the get go.

good luck.

Important to plan how you will drain the water to the sewer line. It's also nice if you have a sink and Refriegerator.
