Which one's to select?

I've just had a local breeder offer me some medium discus for about $15/piece. Had a choice from Pigeion, snakeskin, brilliant blue, red, blue, i think, cant remember, Leaning towards the snake skin. can anyone give any advice, just starting with Discus. Thanks.

Yup, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I wouldn't worry about getting the "rarest" strain or most sought after strain or anything like that, just get what you like!

Pick ones with bright eyes swimming in the middle of the tank with their fins erect. Watch them eat. Pick ones that swarm after the food.

Thanks. I just wanted to see if there was any particular strain that was better then the other. I am go with the Snake's skin, i like all little wiggles all over the body. Is $15/each a reasonable cost? there about 1 1/2" to 2inches.

Your first priority should be health, followed by the ones you like the most.

As Carol said, spend some time watching them eat. They should have healthy appetites, be moving around, and not hiding in the corner.

At 1 1/2" to 2" size, you'll have the best success with a handful...at least 6 or more fish.

i agree. buy at least 6. 8 if you can.
snakeskins are nice..at that size though..hard to see if they will all be like the parents. look for signs of fine patterns coming on the gill plates..and 14 bars. some of the babies will only have 8 bars and their pattern wont be fine lines. more like a red turquoise. which are still nice fish.
if your getting 6 or 8..no reason you cant get a mix of strains..if their all from the same place . you could ask him if they can be mixed.
