We have all encounter them.....I know I was told a number of different ones and since keeping discus have found out that it is not the case. So please share the ones you know of and heard of.

I will start off with an easy one.... Discus have to be kept in PH below 7.

My Discus are in a 175 gallon reef setup with lots of water circulation and bright compact flourescent lights. They don't seem to mind either now that they are acclimated and even swim through the water currents on their sides as if it is a game. In fact, when I shut the pumps off is when a few of them press up against the side of the tank until I turn them back on. Go figure.

Here's some of the ones I encountered when I was about 13 and doing research on my first discus tank.

- You need to keep discus in a tank with RO water, filtered through peat.

- Discus feel more secure in planted tanks because in the wild they hide among plants.

- Discus will not eat dried foods so you'll have to use live brine shrimp.

- Filtration is important so you will need either a canister filter or a wet/dry (or anything else expensive and/or complicated, or so it seemed at the time).

Good ones, especially water movement. Mine play in the bubbles from the air pump.

I was always told they were a very timid fish and not agressive. LOL, tell that to "Big Blue", my bd that "owns" my tank.

How about my discus are as big as dinner plates.

i seen a discus in chicago at marios that its fins would touch the edges of a paper plate and the fish was very round, the fish was easily nine inches, i think it was a webbed pidgeon.

12 steps

1. We admitted we were powerless over Discus - that our lives had become meaningful.
2. Came to believe that a Discus greater than ones we own could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Discus as we understood them.
4. Made a searching and fearless inventory of our breeding stock.
5. Admitted to our Discus, to ourselves and to our families the exact nature of our obsession.
6. Were entirely ready to have Cary Strong remove all these defects of our breeding stock.
7. Humbly asked Al to remove our short-comings.
8. Made a list of all Discus we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such Discus wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take breeding stock inventory and when we were wrong promptly argued our point.
11. Sought through online forums and friends to improve our conscious contact with Discus, as we understood them, praying only for knowledge of breeding and the power to raise the fry.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to Discus-aholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Hope this does't offend.
