Water Softners

I was just testing my by-pass valve for my softner today, and it appears to not work. I usually get my well water from an outside tap that comes direct from the well. I can't use this tap in the winter. Is it OK to use water that passes through a softner??? Or is this harmful to the fish?

It's not a good idea. Softeners take out needed minerals and also raise sodium content.

I would try maybe replacing the valve of find out why it's not working...
