I am astonished! :o

I have a 90G planted tank that isnt really intended for discus however any runts I have, I place into the 90G (my wife cant stand me putting discus in the freezer). A couple of months ago, I put 3 more runts (now totally 4) into the tank. From pretty much week 1, two discus started the mating ritual and layed eggs. This is not uncommon actually however the eggs would never hatch but get eaten instead. Of course, I never even gave it much thought that the eggs would hatch because my tds is very high (Im going to measure it tonight again).

Hi Ron, amazing! It must have been quite a challenge to lay eggs on each of those leaves, then fertilize.

I guess they really want babies :) It's nice to see wigglers in a planted tank, looks so natural. Nice pics!!

Watching them protect the fry from other tankmates is an awesome site. The taking turns to eat as the other stands guard and the constant herding of the group is amazing to watch.
It is an impossible task in my tank with 40 sum-odd tetras to fend off....but the side-swooping of the male at a school of cards and rummies is inspiring to watch.

It was a sight to see however fry no more. Either the parents ate them or other fish. Im sure they will try again soon. Perhaps they are still learning to be good parents. LOL! ;)

Well, there they go again! They laid a bunch of eggs on the glass again. We'll see what happens.

It's really neat to see fry on the greenery. 8) Good luck with this latest batch.

Well, these guys are still laying eggs every week. Last week the fry were even free swimming however the next day they were gone again. Not sure who would of ate them. I may need to keep a night light on perhaps instead of pitch dark. We will see what happens with this next batch of egg that they layed 2 days ago. Ive also lowered the ph using C02 injection not so much for the fry but plants. Curious to see what will happen.

I leave the light on 24/7 once the fry are wigglers. You have them in a planted tank and with no lights on the fry can get lost in the plants, gravel or sand. Try leaving the lights on or at least one if you have 2 lights on the tank. I would leave the one over the wigglers. Once they move the fry away from the breeding cone or pot, I would remove it from the tank.
