I'm going to be getting some golden melons from Cary tommorrow, my impression is they will be a golden orangey color & I wonder if I fed them tetra bits would they turn really red?

That is affirmative. I have done it myself. They will turn to an orange/light red color. I think you saw one of the fish that it happened to.

thanks! I'll keep them away from the red foods then :D
I'd be really sad if they changed hues, unless it was intentional lol

It sure is pretty, but I prefer the golden orange look lol

If you don't want to redden your golden discus then you will have to forgo the tetra bits and food like prawns in the discus diet. Most golden strains will get reddish color if they are food like that. One exception is dickson golden discus, i own one which gets plenty of pigment in his diet and he has stayed a nice golden color.
