Hey all,

Just got our first shipment of discus in today from Sunrise Tropicals... so exciting ;D.

We got 4X RSGs (2.75''+), 1 Leopard (2'') and 3X RT's (2''-2.5''). All arrived in good health, a few had a small amount of ammonia burns but don't seem to be effected.

Anyway, first, I want to check and make sure we did everything right... or close to.

I added 2tbsp salt/10g and 4 capfuls of Melafix.

We got the drip method going, though we put enough water in the bucket + bag water so the largest of the fish had enough room to swim with their fins folded. Then we got the drip going with an airline+valve. I let the bucket fill up to about 4/5 and made sure the temp in the bucket plus the tank was about the same (86F). Then I caught the fish with my hands and added them to the tank.

pH from Sunrise was about 6.5-7 and ours was 8 so I felt a little compeled to adjust them slowly.

Anyway, *maybe* I can get some pictures once they all have settled down a bit.

Puma :D

Thanks ya'll... sure was like christmas... I was so anxious to get them out of that bucket :).

Here's a picture, it's crap, but it's the best I can do before we get the tannins out of the water.

okay, last one, the leopard.

Is he hormoned or can you not tell... what are the signs of hormoned fish?

Excellent pics...they look nice and healthy! :)

Yes, the leopard is hormoned...at that age it would nornally not be showing full color so early.

Thanks Howie :)!

I figured it was hormoned, but not sure. They should have striations at this age, right?

Well it's, been 2 weeks since they arrived... to the day. First, I want to know, if the leopard is hormoned... when should his coloring fade? I thought it should by now, but it hasn't.

I also want to give Sunrise Tropicals a thumbs up. Tony was very helpful through the ordering process, and, since every strain my brother picked, he didn't have 4 of, he finally decided to sell use the 3 remaining red turqs + the leopard which was marked down to the cost of the red turqs. All the fish are doing excellent, and have gone to being shy and hating water changes to being boisterous and excited even during WCs. They eat anything and everything I put into the tank ;D.

hormonisation might not wear off as easily as enhancement through asthaxanthin or other natural enhancements. hormonisation is an adding of pigmentation to the fish. sometimes, they never wear off.
