Deworming

Hi,

I have never deworm my fish before and I want to do it this time. What is the best medicine for that and where can I buy them with decent price? I remember reading a post that formalin can be used to deworm fish. Did I remember it wrong?

Hi. Pipzine (piperazine) is good for deworming. I'm not sure where to get it in the US, I live in Canada. I'm sure someone will know.

Formaldehyde is not used for deworming.

Hi Julie, my local Big Als still has it, for now anyway. Also, www.mops.ca still has it. I'm not sure where I'll get it when they run out. It's by Aquatronics.

Barb, I read on another site that Aquatronics is restructuring and moving to Nevada; and may open up again next year.
Hopefully it's correct, as my Big Al's carries alot of Aquatronics products.

I hope so. Apparently Aquarium Pharmaceuticals is going to be coming out with some of the meds that Aquatronics used to supply.

If you have trouble getting Pipzine there, I could try to get some here and send it to you.

Piperazine is the active ingredient in lots of dog and cat wormers sold in pet shops, feed stores and chains such as Walmart. Read the labels. You'll find it. It's not sold through vets much since it has lost it's effectiveness in dogs and cats. Can anyone tell me the doseage to add to the water? would it be 250 mg per 10 gal. like most fish meds?
