My tank has been running with fish for a month now and I discovered traces of Nitrites the other night, about .1 mg, barely readable against the colour charts. I tested against tap water and my other non-Discus tanks with 0 traces of Nitrites, so it's not the test kit.

The fish seem fine, very active and hungry but it bugs me that there are traces of Nitrites. A reading now confirms that it's still there. I clean the sponge filters once a week with used tank water but perhaps I was too thorough.

Since the amount is so small, should I just monitor it and let the biofilter take care of it...eventually? Or should I could pre-treat the water with Prime or add salt?

The tank is a 65 gallon bare bottom, filtered with 2 Hydro sponges and an AC500. 50% water change daily.
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrites .1 mg
Nitrates 5 ppm
pH 7.2
KH 0
GH not measured Conductivity guestimate 300 uS with R/O Right.

Any suggestions?
