night light on 24X7 with fry

I've been told recently its a good idea to have a light on 24 hours a day when a pair is spawning and hatching fry. Is this trur, and why?
Any hlep would be great.

I leave a small lamp on 24/7. It helps the babies find the parents and the fish don't startle as easily when the room lights are turned on.
