1/2 of eggs not sticking to PVC

My discus pair spawned today and I noticed that 1/2 of the eggs didn't stick to the PVC and the male was eating them as they fell. Is this normal, they spawned a week ealier and ate the eggs on the second day, is the closeness between spawns a factor? Would a spawning cone be better for them to spawn on ? I would appreciate any advise.

It has nothing to do with the PVC. It is a problem with the eggs. I have seen it twice. Both times it was from adult females that I had just bought. A couple of weeks of good food and the problem went away.
