I just got a young discus that has a slight dent in one eye. I could see it but he was crackiling with potential otherwise so I overlooked this one flaw and got him (after talking the store into a discount for him). Well, after looking up the problem it could be a thing called eye chipping and everything I've read says I should avoid a fish showing this at all costs? What are the reasons besides it being a little unsightly? The fish I got it is slight. Is it genetic that he/she could pass on if he/she breeds? This little guy was showing such potential otherwise I couldn't walk past him, I hope I don't regret the purchase. :( (he/she is a fine line snakeskin and showing that he/she will turn out to be red with the fine lines, coloring just enough for me to tell that this fish will be beautiful when he/she grows up!).

Eye chips are a flaw at fish shows and I believe it's passed to offspring. If you are not planning to breed or show then it doesn't matter - grow him out and enjoy
