I purchased an AC70 and the filter will not hang over the lip on the inside of the aquarium. On one of my tanks I cut the piece of plastic lip out so that the filter would sit right. I would like to avoid doing the same on my other tanks. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.

The A/C 70 is the old 300. I've also found that the 300's (70's) won't fit on a 75 gallon tank either.

I have mostly acrylic tanks and I don't think any power filter will fit on them :(

I've got an Aquaclear 300 and I had to cut a couple of slots into the frame of my old 50 gallon tank (the tank does NOT have a center frame support, and instead has thicker glass) for it to fit.

I've got the same problem-kind of annoying. It appears they have intentionally designed the smaller filters so that they do not fit on the thicker glass aquariums. I suspect they intentionally don't want you using an 'undersized' filter on a larger tank. My plan is to take my dremel tool and bur a little off the back of the lip of the filter so that it fits. We shall see if this works. I am actually using an AC 70 as a growing chamber for my porthos plants. I use the AC 110 for actual filtration.

That was my impression Cary. It is kindof irritating.

If your problem was like mine, all I had to do was cut a small semicircle for the U tube to clear. Don't have to notch the entire width of th AC.

I have had the same problem on my larger glass tanks with the 300's but a AC500 will most often work as their mounting bracket is wider.

Cosmo,
Im able to use the 300s and 500s on my acrylics...Actually prior to my order/purchase I had the dealer make sure that the manufacture of my 125 would cutout for both to fit...
