Hi this may seem kind dumb , but how do you measure metro?
Carol says to use 400 to 500 mg to 10 gallon ,so how many mg to a teaspoon???makes it a little easier to measure.

Hi
I did some measruring and want to bounc this off of you guys..
web says that 15g=1/2 oz
so 7.5g=1/4 oz
I measured 1 tsp of metro and it =1/4oz so 1 tsp =7.5gwhich =7500mg

I'm treating a 75 gallon so would need 3000mg to 3750mg
so i should need around 1/2 tsp
is this correct?
Thanks
Debbie

I will agree with those numbers...though it is always best to measure out the exact weight of any medication using an electronic gram scale, but since metro doesnt have any drastic effects if OD'd, then 1/2 tsp sounds like a safe number to start with.

Hi Debbie,

I typically use 1 tsp for a 75 gallon tank. Although not the most accurate way to measure out metro powder...1/4 tsp is about 500 mg of metro and I use 500 mg per 20 gallons. The dose seems to work for me and I have not had a problem treating my Discus with this dose up to 3 times a day.

I use the same measurements as Lester 1/4 teaspoon per 10 gallon every 8 hours. i purchased my metro from Jehmco and thats also the dosage they gave me.

Thankyou all,
I haven't used it before and didn't want to hurt my fish. How long should I keep up the treatment? Container says 3 to 5 days.
After 2 treatments all my fish look a lot better and are still eating ,as much as i can put in the tank.I think it made them feel better and they want to eat.lol
Thanks in advacne

3 days if all are eating and swimmin in middle of tank. KEep temp elevated for a week after you stop dosing metro, then slowly lower a degree or two per day.

I also think I might need to treat for tapeworms,, should I use fluke tabs or prazipro and how long after stopping treatment of metro should I wait . I am thinking I should wait at least 2 weeks to be sure they are ok.
Thanks

I would wait two weeks. Fluke tabs will put them off their food for a couple of days.

If your fish have not been eating I would use prazi

They are eating and have been , they just have long white feces , and 1 is a little darker than usual. After treating with metro they are eating like pigs.
I still have 1 that stays in the back I think it's claimed it as his territory.

IF they still have long stringy, mucus like feces they are not well. Healthy discus have little, dark, mouse-like turds, are light in color and hover in the middle of the tank. Prazi will not help intestinal flagellates. Prazi and fluke tabs are more for external parasites. Watch them closely - you may need to dose again with metro.
