Found an ad in the paper for 55g tank, filter, heater, stand, & 8 discus fish. Bought them.....But am stumped on what this one is....he called it two different names and gave me a Wattley certificate for it. Lol at least I think it was for this one. Any ideas what it is? Don't mind it's tank, it still has a lot of work needs done on it, but got most of it clean. Sigh...tomorrow is another day:)

Hi Robin

Nice looking fish...sounds like you got a good deal. Judging by the pelvic fins you got yourself a Red Discus. These fish go by a number of differnt names depending upon what the gentic crossings they carry are.

Here's a pic of one of my Tomato Red babies...with final color development still in progress.

The black ring in the fins means it's not to many generations from a wild fish, but it's to red to be a wild brown (and the black usually comes from wild greens) It's to dark to be a rose red, My guess would be a Tomato or a cross with a red based fish and a wild green. Looks like it has promise if you can fatten him up. Ken

Nice Howie!! I love the red fish, but can't seem to like the red fish with white faces:/ (melons) Yours is SUPER!! I did get a pretty good deal. Paid 300.00 for all. Got a couple stunts, but most were very nice. Lol, to think I was looking for tanks for more room for my present discus, and brought this one home already full!! Oh well, back to the tank ads:)
