No nurseries around here even have a clue what I mean by "untreated peat moss"...where do you guys get YOUR peat? Is there a national chain that carries it? BTW, I'm in Phoenix...

You can also order a box of peat moss from bigalsonline.com.

Also, thatpetplace.com carries peat in both fiber form and granule form. I buy a lot of my supplies on line from them...their prices are great and shipping is very fair. I visited their store in Pennsylvania last weekend and it's HUGE.

Look for Fluval peat fiber or granules. I use the granules in my hot magnum pro and they work for about a month. The box is blue with a pic of the stuff on the front. They are in just about every LFS or online place I've been to. Just make sure you rinse it with aged water beforehand, otherwise the dust can cloud the tank.

I did use the Home depot Canadian peat moss for a couple of months in my holding container to reduce the ph. No luck, it did not do a thing to the ph. I hope the other stuff works for you.

Depends on KH. What was yours?

I am talking about RO water with KH of about 1

This is interesting. But isn't pure RO water on the acidic side anyway, from atmospheric CO2? Or you wanted to drive pH below that?

My RO cames out with a ph of 7.2. More neutral than acidic. I am not able to get it lower than that. I experimented with Muriatic acid. It drops it too much and I am not comfortable using acid to lower ph.
