That is a good question,I have wondered that myself..My new tanks have a 10 yr guarantee on them so I would say that it would be OK for at least 3 or 4 yrs after that..I would say that different things would influence the tanks,if they were ever moved,etc...Good question

i have a 55 that has been in continuous use (surviving three moves) for 17 years. what is other's experience? do they eventually "let go" or do they spring slow leaks? actually i probably don't want to know, as it is in the upper level of my house.

Same here. We had tanks running for quite a bit; relocated TWICE and even bumped into the door frames because it was just too heavy. No spring of leaks ... knock on AGA tanks! --ang--

The 55 is 8 or 9 years old, never leaked.

It was moved 2x both by us. Once from one home to another, once from upstairs to downstairs.

I had an Atlas 55gal bought in the 70's. Was moved from Chicago to Calif and then back 18 years later.. used several years then given to my nephew about 4 years ago.. he still uses for his Africans. Never leaked as far as I know..

Depends on the tank and the manufacturer. I had a 35 Hex that was in service for almost 20 years with no problems.

I had a 125 let go after about 10 years of service. One of the corners opened up and drained the tank. I lost a beautiful collection of Synodontis Angelicus. Four large females about 12in and 2 males. I was depressed for days after the incident. I resealed the tank with silicone and filled it. It opened up again. The 3/8 glass just moved under water pressure. I now have it reinforced with extra panels of glass inside and have a bar clamp outside. It's been about a year and holding.
