Hi all, My reds laid tonight and I was going to put mesh over them but I'm not too sure of a few things.
1) how close should the mesh be to the eggs?
2) will the parents still take care of them when they hatch?
3) when should I remove the mesh?
Thanks
Debbie

I would still like the answers to those questions but I had to remove the mesh , The male was bashing into everything and trying to knock the mesh off . So I put in a divider and removed the mesh. Mom was smarter she tries to get over and under it and got a scratch. She is tending fine and not eating them so far. I will keep you guys updated.

1 - maybe like 1/8 - 1/4" away from the eggs

2- I've never had a pair neglect the eggs. I have had them swim away and ignore them for an hour or so.

3 - after the fry swim out to the parents.

All the eggs turned white so I let them have at it.LOL maybe next time.
Thank you Mat for you reply . I think I had the mesh too far away from the pot. I need practice too, haha.
