Hi !
I have been doing some new tank pricing / shopping.

I originally planned to get a 90-gal, but now I am considering a 125-gal.
It isn't that much more $ than the 90-gal.

Not sure which one to get. I guess the 125-gal intimidates me a little, it is so big! But the 90-gal didn't seem very big at all. Guess I just answered my own question. LOL

This will be a discus only, bare bottom tank.

I am due to get 8 discus babies from GLD...I think this Friday! Talk about a GOOD FRIDAY! :p :p :p

I am starting them out in a 30-gal tank, and plan to move them to my bigger tank once they outgrow the 30-gal. I don't have any tanks available between those sizes to gradually increase their tank size. So my question is...will moving them from a 30 to a 125 freak them out? Or will they be fine?

Thanks~
Audrey

Go for the 125g.

Granted the 90g is 48 inches long but it is to deep to clean comfortably.

I have both a 125g and a 90g, I stand 6' 2" tall and the 90g is a pain for me to clean.

Much easier to clean the 125g.

Just my opinion,
Boxerdad

That is an excellent point, BoxerDad...and one that is really an issue for me, because I am only 5 feet tall. I have to stand on step stools as it is, just to clean the bottoms of my 30s...and even then I am armpit deep in them.

That 125 is sounding better and better...

Go for the 125....when in doubt, go all out!

What about moving the 8 discus from the 30 to the 125...is a jump that big going to freak them out?

THANKS!!!!

:bouncegre :bouncegre Audrey, I agree completely, the 125 is the way to go. I have both size tanks, & I do like the 90, it was left over from my days of keeping SW fish. But since I've added the 125, realized it's much better for our fish. The footprint is the important part, & its more spread out than the 90, which is deeper, & somewhat more difficult to clean. Talk about deep, the 65 hex that I've raised discus in is even worse, unless you put it low on the floor, then I can reach it more easily, empty right now, no babies to raise; there should be no problem putting those 8 into the 125, they'll love it, lol, Dottie :fish:

Oh, yeah! One more question I had:

All Glass or Perfecto???

All Glass has one year warranty, Perfecto has a 20-year warranty.
But I heard the AG is made better.

Decisions, decisions....

All Glass! I always buy all glass tanks and havent had a problem with any of them yet. Even though perfecto has a longer warrantee, I never kept the same tank running for 20 years. They keep on making all of these new fancy tanks, so it is hard not to be tempted to buy them and put away your older one.

Audrey, think about the amount of aged water required for the 125 to make water changes. Don't forget about that.

I will be using tap water for my water changes.

I just put 20 2.5"-3.0" inch juveniles straight into a 240 gallon tank that measures 8' x 2' x 2', so you should have no problem with 8 in a 126.

Perfecto tanks are OK, I own one, but I prefer All-Glass or Oceanic because it is easier to find replacement parts, like rear splash guards, hinges, and replacement glass tops if you need them.

Keep in mind that Perfecto and All Glass tops are not interchangeable, and Perfecto glass tops are thinner compared to All Glass or Oceanic. Perfecto glass tops are not made of as thick glass as All-Glass or Oceanic.

But again, I believe you might find Perfecto less expensive to buy, if cost is a large factor. You may also want to look at some of the PetSmart house brands, like Top Fin. These tanks look pretty well made, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are made by one of the big three for PetSmart anyways.

Thanks, Dave. I had planned to check PetSmart's prices soon. I believe Top Fin is the brand they carry.

Audrey,

I have been shopping tanks too. The best prices I found are at Petland. They carry some cheap brands but some of the better brands too. The one near me will even order what you want. The only place I found cheaper is in Pennsylvania but they don't ship. By the time I spend money on gas and tolls for my pickup and my time it's not worth the $150 savings.
