Have any of you tried Jack Wattley's method of raising fry without the parents? I have a pair now that has laid eggs for the second time in a 75 gallon tank. In this tank there are 6 other discus and I am thinking of pulling the eggs ala Angelfish. The first time I got some free swimming fry but they gradually disappeared. I haven't had the time to set up a separate tank for the pair. Anyway according to what I am reading Wattley claims that 40% or his spawns are raised artificially. This method involves using white enamal pans for the fry. An egg yolk formula is spread around the lip of the pan for the fry to eat. This would be their first food.
Because it is so messy you have to do 3 water changes a day. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you don't have time to set up a second tank, you definately won't have the time to artificially raise fry. ;)

It's a ton of work. I did it once and I'll probably never do it again.

It is a very outdated system. There are better ways to do it. The best is to let the parents try in another tanK.
