View Full Version : How old til breeders are over the hill??
Hi,
I heard that breeders only keep pairs till they are 3 years old because they slow down spawing activity at this point, is this true? If it is, is it because the male becomes less fertile or the female or both?

I have raised fry from a pair that was over 6 years old. They do spawn less and have smaller spawns but in the right conditions they will still spawn some.

Usually I replace a breeding pair when they can't pay the rent.

I have a pair that is between 3 and 4 years old that have pretty much stopped spawning for me. They still dance and flirt and they get along great but they don't really lay eggs anymore. Honestly, I haven't really done much to encourage them but they used to lay every week without fail no matter what I did to the water or gave them to eat.
