View Full Version : Adjusting flow on Aquaclear 110

Just got my Aquaclear yesterday and like it so far. But the ability to control flow seems non-existent. At either extreme of the little plastic flow control thingy I see absolutely no change in flow (compared to my Fluval, where I have control from a trickle to a torrent). What type of flow control SHOULD I see with the Aquaclear 110? I'm wondering if I am looking for something that is hard to notice or perhaps I've installed incorrectly (not sure how - all seems very simple).

Thanks.

I don't think the flow changes very much. . . . and it doesn't matter. Whatever the flow is is just fine for discus.

Mine has decent flow adjustment, the minimum is about half the max flow. I dont know what to tell you!

I need another 110. I need a link to a good online store to get one also.
Thanks.

I was rather stunned at the price differential between Online PetSmart and Brick and Mortar Petsmart. The latter was $72 (rip off) - but the online price is $35.

Not to worry, I thought! I just printed out the web page, dropped by my local Petsmart and they happily price matched (so saved on shipping that I would have paid online).

$35 (albeit plus tax) is cheaper than I could have got it on eBay. Weird! But nice weird...

Can you PM me the link to the online store with that kind of price?
Thanks.

Sorry I just read your post again. Thanks for the info.

Mark. Is the 110 AC the smallest one they have? Don't see 110 listed at Big Als.
Their 500 the biggest one is same price at 35 plus 8 shipping.

Forgot. Here's link...........

Actually, the 110 is the largest (60 - 110 gallons, I believe). The 500 model is the old numbering system (for some reason they changed quite a while back). The 500 and 110 are essentially the same, although I am not sure if th name change also coincided with small product improvements. Anyway, the latest and largest model is the 110. Here's the link (remember, you can walk into a local PetSmart and price match if you print out this page):

Short URL, eh?

Yeah, PetsMart will match the online store prices in the physical store, on heaters too! So nice not to pay shipping!

The AC 110 IS the AC 500.

Instead of the number representing the gallons per hour rating of the unit (AC500 does 500 gph), the new numbering system represents the "maximum" tank size the filter can support by itself. So, Hagen essentially is saying a AC 110 is good for tanks up to 110 gallons (although I would definately put more than just one filter on a tank that large).

I think the new numbering scheme makes it easier for newbies to pick a filter for their tank... but I think they are being a bit liberal on their maximum values (who in their right mind would use an AC Mini on a 20 gallon tank!)

I never fully understood the reason manual says that the ceramic noodles have to be replaced every three months. Any thoughts?

So are you all replacing those ceramic noodles every three months or so as the manual recommends?
Every three month seems the time for bacteria have colonized so replacing them seems sort of defeating its purpose. Am I missing somthing?

I don't use the ceramic noodles. All I use is sponge media in mind. I fill up container with it. I buy extra sponge.

Anyone have any thoughts on that method?

No need to replace the noodles unless they get coated with mulm - then rinse in dechlorinated water and reuse

Make sense that they are not replaced as I thought would be the case.
Thanks.
