View Full Version : Will loose eggs hatch?

My fish knocked a bunch of eggs off the pvc pipe
when I accidently startled them (damn!) so I sucked'em up with a baister right away and put them in a container with tank water and an air line. Will they hatch that way or do they need to be attached so the wrigglers will be tethered to something?

Kaceyo,

Yes, the eggs will hatch out, BUT anytime the eggs are pulled or knocked before the 5th day after laying has their problems, unless the eggs lack their
adhesive gland and falls off by themself.

Thanks Cliff,
These were knocked off by mom and they were just layed yesterday. They did seem to come off easier than I would have expected. When I have scraped off eggs by hand from a different female they were stuck on the pipe pretty strongly. I put a screen over the remaining eggs after this happened. This is the pair I told you about from Wayne and I really want these fry.

Hi Kacey,
Well if they fell off almost naturally, then it should still be fine. Just that
some hobbyist will pull off the eggs, or scrap the eggs using a razor before they fall off normally, the results are deform frys.
