I know the more we do water changes the better. At present I'm looking into an RO unit so I have to buy my water right now $$$$$'s.

Can I get away with changing water every 3 - 4 days, 1/3 my tank? I only have 1 Discus at present. Planted tank with fine gravel on the bottom. Fluval 304 filter.

Thanks............

What are the parameters of your tap water? You may be able to get away with dechlorinated aged tap and forgo the RO.

Isn't RO more for if you get into breeding? Someone more experienced will know for sure.

gH = 120
kH = 200

This is right out of the tap, not standing water.

That's actually pretty ok for domestic discus. The GH should not change very much after standing. You want to look out for pH changes after standing.

If my numbers are pretty ok, do I really need an RO system?

My ph is constant and so is the gH and kH.

Thanks

If your tap water doesn’t have chloramines, just age it for a day with a heater (to match tank temp) and aeration. If it has chloramines use AquaPlus or something similar to remove it before adding to your tank, that’s all.
