Taking a note from another thread, why is it bad to have neons with discus vs. having cardinals with discus. I currently have 3 discus in 28C water (82.5F) with a KH around 4.

DarkDiscus, would you mind elaborating on why its bad?

thanks!

neons need cooler temps and wont last long at that temp

That's pretty much it.

Cardinals also get bigger and are more robust and are harder for discus to eat.

The temp's the real issue, though. Keeping neons at discus temps, while possible, would be stressful for them and they aren't the toughest fish to begin with.

I just can't keep them arround long enough! I get a real kick out of watching my Discus hunt, corral, attack and devour the neons! Thank goodness I can get them for a buck a piece because the eat about 5 a day.

The temperature is the main problem. Neons just don't last long at temps above above 80 F. My Discus have also eaten a few of the Cardinals in the tank with them, but 10 have managed to escape for more than a year.

Well i have had some neons with my discus at 86 for temperture and they have survived 7 months now and dont seem to care. My discus havent eatan any of them and the neons seem perfectly happen even in the high temperture.
