Sometimes I think my discus are ill when they are really settling in for the night or sleeping, or just waking up.. at least that is the conclusion I have come to!

Any input on this? http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_11_116.gif

Marie,

I have never seen a discus on its side for sleeping.

I HAVE seen discus on their sides after shipping or when severely stressed out.

Marie, ive never seen it in the evening, but sometimes in the mornings when i turn on the lights early i find one or two of my fish sideways in the tank, never right lying down on there sides, but at weird angles. They look like they are kinda drugged. Just waking up. THere alot like me, not morning people. lol

Is it when the tank lights are out and the room lights are on ?

Fish position after the lightsource.. I bet if you put light under the tank they will swim upside down :p

I've seen my discus on their sides only when they are about to scoot through the driftwood or plants. It amazes me how they can swim that way! Yesterday one swam completely horizontal under the others to get a tasty morsel of food he had seen, but the others had missed. Looked like a finned Frisbee!!

Hey John!

I have seen that too after shipping...These guys are not actually on their side, per se', I guess i shld have said that they are more sideways, as opposed to on their side....you made me think about that more, thanks!!

Hey You!

Yes, Chris, in the morning, i turn on lights slowly, but i have one little one on all night, but i turn them on slowly, and in the beginning i thought that something was wrong, cuz they were sideways, and you are right, never lying down on their sides, but at strange angles....so cool! Thanks!! and yeah, they looked kinda drugged!!

Marie~

Hey Martin!!
Gosh, I hope you come back and read this...lol! Soooooo, yes this is after i turn out the lights....they position themselves after the lights are off? And if you were too put a light under the tank, they would swim upside down?? Have you seen them do that?? That is hilarious! Sometimes, mine do swim upside, to get that morsel of food they want! I love that! That would be an interesting experiment...THanks!http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_7_8.gif

Wolfbane~
I know!! I love when they swim all different ways....they do look like frisbees....lol!! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_9_2.gif or Pringles, yes? I have one that I named , Ms. Pringles! She is from the lfs...my only and last one from there.

Hi Marie,
YES! some of mine do sleep laying down. When I first discovered it, I thought it was dead and of course I tried to stir it and it awoke from it's slumber and didn't like it. I guess you have to be with them early in the mornings (2 am)after you turn off the main light and leave your night light on. You'll see some of them laying sideways.
