Those who have been in the hobby for awhile . How long have your discus lived. If they have good water, food etc How long can we expect to have our wonderful pets for?

I've brought older fish that I estimate at 5 - 7 years. Also, who knows how old those adult wilds are?

I agree with April that older fish can look their age after a while. I have had fish that won discus competitions 1 - 2 years ago that clearly don't look as good as when they won. Some of it may have to do with the heavy feeding we do.

I had a marlboro red that I bought at 2.5" in 1996 and sold him in 2005, making him 9 yrs old at the time of selling. He was never sick a day in his life, and was still spawning, although the fertility rate dropped off quite a bit.

I've heard of discus living to 14 years of age.

I have a very spunky guy that will be 8 years old in October, he resides in a tank with a semi blind pet White Butterfly. He is Definitely showing his age. Not nearly as old as those above but he will with be me and treated like a King until...
