if it is getting direct sunlight at all that will really give you GSA, also if you keep nitrates 10-15ppm and phosphates 3-4ppm and CO2 up it will go away. Depending on the discus nitrates target my be harder to maintain. I find in my planted tank with discus I still have to add nitrates to keep it ~10ppm, some plants really eat up nitrates quick. Usually GSA is caused by low nitrates (very typical in a Discus tank) and 1-2ppm of phosphates (and low CO2). Tom Barr did a study a few months back on the NO3/PO4 relationship, for years it was always a 10:1 (ppm nitrates to ppm phospahtes) for planted tanks.

ok i rambled on long enough....

BTW those fish are very nice, I can't find and wilds here in WI and when I do they dont look 1/2 as nice as those. Enjoy them :)

Thanks guys... the tank is actually a 20g. I actually got this pair from a lfs for only $50. One is 7in.+ and the other is 6in+. I think they were trying to get rid of them...I guess i got lucky.

Dissident...I actually only use liquid fertilizer with this tank...Saving up for a C02 bottle. hehehe. Your planted tanks look real nice!!!!! esp the 110gallon one. I've got alot to learn looking at your tanks.

Thanks,

What liquid fert do you use? It is probably the cause for the GSA that you are seeing. If you can suppliment it with Flourish Excel (organic carbon) you may see algae decrease and plants increase. I have dosed 2x reccomended in my discus tank with no adverse effects to the fish (just dont do the waterchange and add the big dose like the bottle says). If you just do 2x normal dose it will accumulate enough in a week without stressing fish.
