Im going to be setting up a 125 gal.bb aquarium what would you reccomend for filters? I was thinking of going with two bio wheel filters and a couple sponge filters. Any thoughts? thanks Jeff.

Hi,
I like aquaclears hob and sponge filters. If it were I , I would go with 2 hob of 500gph capacity plus some sponge filters.jmo

Some use large sponge filters only, it works for them along with lots of wc's:)

If you go with the bio wheels, don't use the carbon inserts. At drsfostersmith.com you can buy "cell pore media" inserts for either the ac or the bio-wheels.. great bio media.

Personally, I prefer eheim cannisters even though they can be a PITA to clean.. lol

:D In my 125g, have an aquaclear 500 & 3 sponge filters.. the extra sponge is there for "just in case" needs, would do fine with 2. Stays nice & clear....Dottie

On my 125 I have 2 canisters magnum 350 with bio wheels & 2 mark V sponge filters & still have to change water at least twice a week.
If you can go with a wet/dry. It is much easier to keep clean.
That is what I did with my 70 gallon. I use to have a enheim 2227 on it & now I like the wet/dry alot better.

Chef,
Carbon is thought to be a health hazard for discus. Possibly contributing to problems with HITH and Lateral Line diseases. It can also dump toxins back into the water if left in too long.
It's great for pretreating tap water to remove chlorine and toxins though.
On the filter, wet/dry is the way to go if you can swing it, otherwise an AC-110 with wth a couple of Hydro-5's would be my choice.
