Lighting?????

hey I am buying a new 75 gallon for my discus and wanted some help setting it up without killing my wallet. I want to grow plants and I was told I can save a lot of money just buying a light fixture from Home depot. Is this true??? and if so give me name brands so i know what to buy???

Most any 4 foot shop light will do. For plants I would get at least a double bulb hanging shop light. This would give you about 1 watt/gal. This is ok for low light plants. If you want to keep plants that require more light you should get a 4 bulb fixture or get power compact lighting.

The drawback to a shop light is that much of the light is wasted unless you have it very close to the top of the tank. Having a shop light that close to the water is not really safe due to the fact that it is not designed to be water resitant.
