Any idea what I'd get from the above cross? How about Snow White x San Merah?

Thanks for any input!

I'm going to guess at this one and say:
Snow Mandarin White Passion and White San Snow Merah

What did I win? ;)

I was being funny LOL! ;) I just couldn't resist :)

I know you will get some that look like the parents, but the san merah has bars and I believe Nebulas and calico do not so I don't know what those will look like.
Carol Roberts is usually good at this hopefully she will jump in and write something ;)

In both cases you will get 100% white based fry with a red pattern on the body ie red/white discus. The snow white is controlled by a dominant gene so the results are predictable. f2 will be far more interesting :D

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the input. I was hoping to get red/white discus, so maybe I'll give it a try. Anyone know how the original red/white was created?

I've done that cross, and have fooled around alot with the whites, depending on the genetic build-up of the white you will get mostly 100% white frys, some red/white types, and some in-betweens with goldish/silverish bars.
I doubt you will get any 100% red fish or nebula types, you may get some red ghosts types though.

IMO a barred san merah is not a san merah, its a throw back and most breeders refer to them as rose reds or red-browns.

sorry Sam I missed your Q's, If you want red/whites from those fish you will need to cross the f1's showing red back to the san merah or too another red type. If you cross 2 f1's showing red/white from the original pairing again you will get mostly whites. SW is a very strong gene that can even trump pb.

Sam,
Sorry I don't want to hijack your thread but I am confused about what Jason said :)

Jason,
I have attached 2 pics of my San Merah, well that's what it is suppose to be. If it is not a San Merah then what is it?
Thanks,
Frank
