WIGGLERShttp://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_34.gif
Only about 20-30 eggs were fertalized. Not too bad for 1 year old fish. This is the first time they have gotten to this stage. The last spawn were all fungused. The female moved the wigglers to the back side of the flower pot where I can't seee them.:( Keeping my fingers crossed that they will do things right.

Good luck. I like that striated discus. Male or female?

Thanks Chris!

If they hatched tonight when will they become freeswimming? Is it 2 or 3 days after? I hope it's 2 days cause I will be home on sunday. Might be getting snowed in as well. Maybe next time I will try adding formalin after eggs are laid. Hopefully next time more eggs will be fertalized. They have only been in the breeding tank for 2 weeks now. Right now dad is gaurding the wigglers while mom is waiting for a few more eggs to hatch.

I am so excited right now! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_13.gifI can't wait to see the fry on the parents sides. I have been waiting to see that in my own tank since I first saw a pic of it 18 years ago.

All but 1 wiggler are gone. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_19_5.gif
Oh Well! Maybe next time they will get it right. At least I know the male is fertile. This was their first time getting to wiggler stage. I left the light on over night. Maybe they got hungry and wanted a snack???

I saw that the female was getting closer to laying eggs again today when I got home from work. I was going to clean out the poop and do a w/c but I had an appointment and figured I would do it when I got home.

Well my pair is spawning again as I type. I didn't get a chance to clean out the tank. I guess I'll do it tomorrow. I think they need to work on their techique a bit. A taller spawning surface might help.??? Or maybe I should show them some discus porn. LOL

I took a short video of them in action. Not sure how I can post it here.

Thanks Marie,

They are a productive pair. I know they will keep laying eggs. I think the female really wants to have babies. They are young and will eventually get it right.

Doug. Hang in there. Yep, they will get it right. Just a matter of time.
